In August of 2021, I kept having these dreams where Prince would show up. He was giving me advice in each of the dreams. Strangely enough, he was in my dreams and I’d never even entertained or listened to Prince, let alone any artists outside of the handful of songs I been listening to since childhood— At first, I didn’t know what to make of it. But I held onto it. Fast forward to 2025 I met Sue Ann and the purpose of those dreams began to make sense.

Sue Ann Carwell is a legendary singer and songwriter whose career has spanned across decades, influencing the Minneapolis Sound and beyond. Discovered by Prince, she dropped her debut album Sue Ann in 1981. Over the years, her voice has graced tracks by Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Cher, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, and many others. She’s worked behind the scenes, contributing vocals to countless songs we know and love today. Sue Ann has played a huge role in shaping the music we listen to across multiple genres.

WELCOME 2 THE HUMAN RACE.

–– '1037 MPH' filmed on July 28th, 2026 | released on September 24th, 2026

This was the last video I filmed in California before moving to Minnesota. For some reason, birthdays have been the topic lately. We filmed this on my 27th birthday, felt like the perfect way to close the chapter in Cali, for now at least.

1,037 MPH is how fast Earth spins on its axis. This song came to me while I was driving to LA for some video work. Someone with road rage cut me off and sped around me to get in front. I guess 75 MPH isn't fast enough on the freeway. I always laugh at the fact that people speed just to slow down for the cars in front. I always say, as others may as well, people just be speeding to stop at a red light. You know that feeling when you look at a car and you can see someone's attitude in the way their car moves? Or even just how it looks? Furthermore, it took my mind to a place where I started looking at all the things people rush. Speeding on the highway, always ready to respond in defense mode, always in a rush but at the same time wasting time. Rushing relationships, everything. We need to just slow down.

The second inspiration is my son. This song is a reminder to myself as well. I'm used to just knocking stuff out. I don't like to procrastinate, I like getting stuff done when I think about it. Which I still carry as a trait, but when I had my son and went on walks with him, I couldn't do anything until he fell asleep. I was working on a magazine during this time and couldn't work on that until he took a nap. Most times I was sleepy because I was up all through the night getting stuff done, so I had to sleep when he slept. Then a point comes where you're so sleepy and have so much to do that you surrender and adjust.

My early 20s were the time to work with speed. Now, as I turn 27 and enter a new era of life, I'm getting into a mode of becoming a chess player with more patience and seeing how to do more with less movement. Scope the scene and figure out how to make it more efficient.

A new era.
